Hedge trimming FAQs
How often should hedges be trimmed?
Most hedges look best trimmed every 6 to 12 weeks in the growing season (spring to autumn) and less often in winter. Fast growers like murraya and lilly pilly may need it more often.
How tall can you trim?
Hedges and shrubs we can reach safely from the ground or a platform ladder — usually up to around 3 metres. Tall trees need a qualified arborist, and we're happy to point you to one.
Do you take the clippings away?
Yes. All clippings are raked up and either bagged into your green bin or taken away with green waste removal.
Can you cut an overgrown hedge back hard?
Yes, most hedges recover well from a hard cut-back. We'll let you know if a plant is unlikely to re-shoot before cutting into old wood.
When is the best time to trim hedges?
Late spring and late summer are ideal for most hedges in Sydney. Avoid heavy trimming in the hottest weeks of summer, when fresh cuts can burn.
Can I add hedge trimming to my mowing visit?
Yes — that's the most popular way. It saves a separate visit and keeps the whole yard looking sharp at the same time.
